Local Branch LevelIn addition to the Carers' Group meetings descrbed above, the Bournemmouth Branch Support Officer (Welfare) provides one to one support to carers and signposting to other sources of help and information. Some local Primary Care Trusts run a 'Looking after Me' Carers' Course. The St Johns Ambulance Brigade and the British Red Cross also run courses for carers from time to time. The Help & Care Sitting Service allows carers living in Dorset and Poole to enjoy a subsidised short break from their caring responsibilities. Ideal to allow carers to attend the MS Bournemouth Carers' Group and other carers' meetings and training courses.Regional LevelThe Regional Committee are looking to appoint a member to liaise with branch Support Officers and National Centre to ensure effective delivery of welfare support including support by the Society to carers.Meanwhile the regional Support Development Officer is covering this role see: Regional Web Pages. The new commitment at national level to develop the delivery of services and local support has resulted in better support for carers of people with MS.
